Customer Questions
can this pump have the prv run straight into it
We wouldn't recommend running the PRV discharge pipe to a condensate pump, here are a few reasons why: Temperature: The Grundfos Conlift 1 LS is designed for condensate removal from boilers and HVAC systems, so the water entering it should generally be cool or lukewarm. If the PRV discharge is from a boiler, it could release very hot water or steam during fault conditions. This can damage the pump or its components. Volume & Flow Rate: PRVs typically discharge intermittently and sometimes at high flow rates. The Conlift 1 LS can handle condensate but not large surges of water. If the PRV discharges a lot of water quickly, it may overwhelm the pump. Safety: If the PRV activates due to overpressure, the water could be near boiling. Pumping this through a plastic condensate pump could be unsafe. Manufacturers usually recommend routing PRV discharge to a tundish and then to a drain, not directly into a condensate pump. Manufacturer Guidance: Grundfos generally advises against connecting PRV discharge directly to their condensate pumps because of temperature and safety concerns. Instead, use a tundish and ensure the water is cooled before entering the pump.
